About Tom

Tom is a consultant physiotherapist with an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine and over a decade of clinical experience spanning men’s professional and international football, NHS specialist musculoskeletal services, and private practice. This breadth of background means Tom has worked with everyone from elite athletes preparing for international competition to complex polytrauma cases and patients managing long-term musculoskeletal conditions.

Alongside his role at Altius, Tom continues to work with The Football Association, applying the same standards of assessment, rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols used in elite sport to every patient he treats privately. His particular clinical interest is in lower limb injuries — hip, groin, knee, and ankle — where his combined experience in elite football and NHS MSK gives him a distinctive perspective on both acute injury management and long-term rehabilitation.

Tom is highly skilled in injury assessment and diagnostics, structured rehabilitation from early stage through to full return to sport, manual therapy, acupuncture, shockwave therapy, and VALD performance testing — an objective measurement system used in professional sport to track strength, power, and asymmetry throughout recovery.

Conditions Tom treats

  • Hip and groin injuries — including hip impingement, labral tears, adductor strains, and chronic groin pain in athletes and active individuals
  • Knee injuries — ACL and ligament injuries, meniscal damage, patellofemoral pain, and post-surgical knee rehabilitation
  • Ankle injuries — acute sprains, chronic instability, Achilles tendinopathy, and post-fracture rehabilitation
  • Sports injuries — assessment, treatment and structured return-to-play programmes informed by elite football experience
  • Complex MSK cases — polytrauma rehabilitation and patients who have not responded to standard treatment elsewhere
  • Performance optimisation — for athletes and active individuals using VALD objective testing to identify weaknesses and track progress

Treatments Tom offers

Tom delivers detailed injury assessment and diagnostics, structured rehabilitation programmes from early stage through to return to sport, hands-on manual therapy, acupuncture and dry needling, shockwave therapy, and VALD performance testing for objective strength and movement assessment. His approach combines clinical examination with measurable data, ensuring every stage of treatment is grounded in evidence rather than guesswork.
