About Woody

Woody is the Clinical Lead at Altius Healthcare and a senior physiotherapist with 12 years’ experience spanning full-time professional sport and private clinical practice. He has worked as a lead physiotherapist with Olympians, world champions, and international athletes across a wide range of sports, bringing the same standards of assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to every patient he sees at Altius.

As Clinical Lead, Woody plays a central role in maintaining and raising the clinical standards across the practice. He leads service development, mentors the wider clinical team, and ensures that the level of care Altius provides in private practice matches the standard he has delivered in elite sport throughout his career. When Doug Jones established Altius with the aim of giving every patient the same quality of care an elite athlete receives, Woody is the person responsible for making sure that happens day to day.

Woody’s particular clinical interests are hip and groin injuries, lower back pain, knee conditions, and structured return-to-sport rehabilitation. He combines detailed clinical assessment with strength and conditioning expertise, making him especially effective with patients who need to bridge the gap between being pain-free and being fully fit to perform.

Conditions Woody treats

  • Sports injuries — acute and chronic injuries across all sports, with structured return-to-play programmes informed by experience at Olympic and international level
  • Hip and groin conditions — adductor strains, hip impingement, labral pathology, and chronic groin pain in athletes and active individuals
  • Lower back pain — disc-related symptoms, sciatica, facet joint pain, and chronic or recurring back pain
  • Knee injuries — ligament injuries, meniscal damage, patellofemoral pain, tendinopathy, and post-surgical knee rehabilitation
  • Return to sport rehabilitation — progressive programmes from early-stage rehab through to full return to competition, with objective strength and performance benchmarks at each stage
  • Strength and conditioning — injury prevention, performance profiling, and targeted programming for athletes and active individuals

Treatments Woody offers

Woody delivers manual therapy, joint manipulation, injection therapy (corticosteroid and hyaluronic acid), shockwave therapy, dry needling, sports massage, taping, and imaging referral where further diagnostics are needed. He also designs and supervises structured strength and conditioning and return-to-sport programmes, bridging the gap between clinical treatment and full performance.

Woody’s ability to administer injection therapy in clinic means patients who need pain management as part of their rehabilitation can receive it within the same treatment pathway, without referral to an external provider.
